Every bike on this page pedals. What separates them is the frame under the drivetrain and what it was built to do.

$899 to $1,999 · 20 to 28 mph

Fat tires, folding frames and step-through geometry, almost all of it Class 2 — a throttle to 20 mph plus pedal assist. Motors run 500 to 750 W nominal with 1,000 to 1,400 W peaks. The Titan and the Saturn take a second battery, which is what turns 40 miles into 80 and 50 into 100. The one to read twice is the Freego City Flow A1: 28 mph on a Shimano 8-speed with no class rating published.

  • Motor 500 TO 750W NOMINAL
  • Peak 1,000 TO 1,400W

Looks like a moto, pedals like a bike

$1,099 to $2,199 · Class 2

A long low frame, a saddle instead of a perch, and pedals fitted mostly so the bike stays legal. Macfox runs a 500 W motor peaking at 750 W across the range, with the X2 Pro the only one on suspension at both ends; the Freego Shotgun pair adds a 330 lb payload on the Prime F2 Pro.

  • Motor 500 TO 750W NOMINAL
  • Battery 600 TO 1,080WH

Off-road frames with a crank bolted on. The Coswheels run a Shimano 7-speed with three levels of pedal assist and reach 55 to 60 mph; the Freego X3 pair uses a pedal-assist sensor alongside the throttle and does 56. Being able to pedal them does not make them legal to ride on the street. The Freego X1 SE is the one that genuinely stays inside a class — 750 W nominal, 20 mph on throttle, 28 mph on assist.

  • Peak power 750 TO 9,000W
  • Voltage 60 TO 72V
  • Top speed 28 TO 60 MPH

Parts, by platform

The Macfox and Freego bikes each carry a platform code with its own parts collection — racks, fenders, tires, brake sets and batteries confirmed for that frame. The Heybike commuters do not have one yet, so parts for those are sourced case by case; ask and we will tell you what fits before you buy.

The rules, plainly

What a class actually is

Three classes and one power ceiling decide where you can legally ride an electric bike in most of the US. Almost every argument about e-bikes comes down to one of these four lines.

Class 1

Assist only

Pedal assist up to 20 mph, no throttle. The narrowest class and the one bike paths and multi-use trails accept with the least argument. If a path posts an e-bike rule at all, this is usually the class it allows.

Class 2

Throttle to 20 mph

A throttle that works without pedaling, capped at 20 mph. Most of this page is Class 2. It is what makes an e-bike feel like a moped and still leaves it legal in a bike lane in most states.

Class 3

Assist to 28 mph

Pedal assist to 28 mph; a throttle, if fitted, still stops at 20. Faster on the road and more often barred from multi-use paths. Several states also require a helmet on Class 3 regardless of age.

750 W nominal

The ceiling

Federal law caps a low-speed electric bicycle at 750 W nominal — not peak. A 750 W motor peaking at 1,400 W is inside the ceiling. Two 750 W motors are not, whatever the listing says, which is exactly the question hanging over the Freego Flash F3 Pro Max.

Electric Bikes with Pedals questions, answered

What makes a bike Class 2?
A crank and pedal assist, a motor at or under 750 W nominal, and a throttle that stops working at 20 mph. Nominal is the sustained rating, not the peak — a 750 W motor that peaks at 1,400 W is still Class 2. Most of this page is Class 2.
The Coswheel R19 has pedals and does 60 mph. Is it street legal?
No. Pedals are necessary for an e-bike class but not sufficient — the motor also has to sit at or under 750 W nominal, and the R19 is a 9,000 W peak machine. It is an off-road bike with a drivetrain. The pedals buy you range on assist (Coswheel quotes up to 124 miles) and a way home with a flat battery, not a license to ride it on the road.
Can I add pedals to a bike that has foot pegs?
Mechanically sometimes, legally no. A class is determined by the whole machine — pedals, a nominal motor rating at or under 750 W, and a speed cap. Bolting a crank onto a 5,000 W dirt bike changes none of the other two. If you need something road legal, buy something that shipped that way.
Which of these take a second battery?
The Heybike Titan and the Heybike Saturn are the two on this page sold in single or dual-battery form — up to 80 miles on the Titan and up to 100 on the Saturn. The Freego Flash F3 Pro Max takes a different route: a fixed 48V 55Ah dual pack, 2,640 Wh, for 60 to 103 miles.
How do these ship?
Boxed and insured, free within the lower 48, typically leaving in 1 to 4 business days. Assembly is bars, front wheel, pedals and a first charge; the Macfox range arrives about 95% built.
What is the return policy?
14 days from delivery to start a return. Complete bikes carry a 25% restocking fee on a change of mind, plus return freight. If we shipped the wrong thing or our fitment data was wrong, you pay nothing.

About Electric Bikes with Pedals

Every electric bike we sell that keeps a crank, a chainring and pedal assist — commuters, moped-style builds, and the off-road dirt bikes that fit pedals so they can qualify as an e-bike class. Pedals are what put a bike inside Class 1, 2 or 3; the ones on foot pegs cannot get there.

Pedals decide what you are allowed to ride.

A crank and a pedal-assist sensor are what put a bike inside an e-bike class. Ask us before you assume yours qualifies where you live.
