Class 2 e-bike

No license, no registration, no insurance

Federal law treats this as a bicycle, so it belongs on the road and on most bike infrastructure.

Overview

A real Class 2 e-bike, scaled to a smaller rider

16 x 4 in fat tires and a 28.7 in seat, on the same 500W drivetrain and the same UL 2849 certification as the full-size bikes.

Macfox built the M16 because customers asked for it: their kids wanted an e-bike and the ones on the market did not fit them. It is a full Class 2 bike - 500W peaking at 750W, capped at 20 mph, UL 2849 certified - scaled down to 16 x 4 inch fat tires and a 28.7 inch seat, which puts it within reach of a rider from about 3'11".

The frame is high-strength carbon steel with a reinforced rear, front suspension takes the edge off rough ground, and the 48V 10.4Ah battery is removable and good for up to 25 miles. It is a smaller bike, not a toy version of one.

Where it fits

Built because the full-size ones did not fit

The M16 came out of customer feedback: parents whose kids wanted an e-bike and could not safely reach the ground on the models that existed. Macfox's answer was to shrink the wheels and the seat height rather than the certification - it is Class 2, UL 2849, and capped at 20 mph like everything else they sell.

Drive

500W, 750W peak, and a hard 20 mph cap

The same motor as the full-size X1S, held to the same Class 2 ceiling. That matters more on a youth bike than anywhere else in the range: 20 mph is the legal limit and there is no app unlock hiding behind it.

Fit

16 x 4 in tires and a 28.7 in seat

This is the whole design brief. Smaller wheels and a low seat put a rider from about 3'11" flat-footed at a stop, which is the difference between confident and precarious. The tires are still 4 inches wide, so the grip does not shrink with the bike.

Range and top speed are Macfox's own lab figures, measured with an average rider cruising steadily in second gear. Treat them as a ceiling, not a promise - hills, headwind, throttle use and cold weather all take a bite out of them.

Delivery & Warranty

Shipping, damage, and the fine print in plain words

Shipping & delivery

  • Ships in 1 to 4 business days.
  • Free US shipping on this bike, no code needed.
  • You get tracking as soon as the carrier scans it.
  • On a dual-battery order the second pack ships separately - that is Macfox's own arrangement, not a split we chose.
  • Continental US only. We cannot ship a lithium pack to Alaska, Hawaii or outside the country.

2-year Macfox limited warranty

  • Macfox is the manufacturer and carries a 2-year limited warranty; MotorHabit is the dealer and every claim starts with us.
  • Report shipping damage within 7 days of delivery, with photos, so we can file the carrier claim in time.
  • The battery is UL 2271 certified in its single-pack configuration. A dual-battery setup is outside that certification's scope - Macfox states this and so do we.
  • Modifying the controller or the electronic control system voids the warranty, and Macfox recommends against it.

What riders say

Q&A

Questions riders actually ask

Macfox recommends it from 3'11" and up - that is a height, not an age, and it is the number that matters. The 28.7 inch seat is what lets a smaller rider get a foot down. There is no lower age limit published, and local law may set one for a Class 2 e-bike where you live.
It is capped at 20 mph, which is the Class 2 limit. There is no app unlock on any Macfox bike.
No. Macfox lists the M16 with a single 48V 10.4Ah pack and no dual-battery option.
Fewer than fit the full-size bikes, and the differences are specific: the M16 takes its own crank set, kickstand, inner tube and brake levers, and Macfox states the extended seat, the rear pegs and the storage bag do not fit it. Every part page here names the M16 in its fitment table when it fits.
Mechanical disc brakes front and rear. The full-size Macfox bikes use hydraulic discs; the M16 is the one model that does not.
About 95% is done in the box, and Macfox quotes 15 to 30 minutes with the tools included. It is a reasonable job to do with the rider it is for.
