Battery Care
Charge habits and storage voltage decide how many cycles you get out of a pack. Most packs that die early were not defective, they were stored full and hot.
The rules that matter
- Store at roughly 40 to 60 percent charge if the bike is sitting for more than a couple of weeks.
- Charge to 100 percent only when you are riding soon after.
- Let the pack cool before charging after a hard ride.
- Do not leave a pack on the charger for days at a time.
- Keep it out of freezing garages and direct summer sun.
Signs a pack is failing
Sudden voltage sag under load, a resting voltage that drifts down overnight, cells that finish charging at visibly different voltages, or a case that gets warm doing nothing. Any of those, stop riding it and get it checked.
