About Knee & Shin Guards
What is here. Seven guards from EVS Sports and MSR, $30 to $160, including options built with D3O — a material that stays flexible while you ride and stiffens on impact. Some cover the knee alone, others run down over the shin.
Guard or brace? A guard absorbs impact and abrasion. A hinged brace also controls how far the joint travels, which is what protects a ligament. Guards are lighter, cheaper, far more comfortable and enough for most trail riding; riders with a previous knee injury or a race schedule usually move up to a hinged brace. Every item lists its sizing on the product page — rider gear is sized by measurement, not by the bike you ride.
