One brand, three shelves

Where the money goes

Heybike's range moves in clear steps: the motor stays much the same across it, and what you buy with the extra money is suspension, tire size, battery capacity and frame material.

Entry · $899 to $1,099

Fat tires and folding frames

500 to 750 W · 1,000 to 1,400 W peak

The shelf where most people start. Folding frames, fat tires and step-through options. The Saturn takes a second battery for up to 100 miles, which is the longest range Heybike quotes anywhere; the Mars 2.0 is the same generation as the 2.5 and sits here on clearance.

  • Motor 500 TO 750W
  • Peak 1,000 TO 1,400W
  • Tires FAT
  • Range UP TO 100 MI ON DUAL PACK

In this tier: Heybike Mars 2.5, Cityscape 2.0, Saturn, Ranger S 2.0

Mid · $1,199 to $1,399

Suspension and bigger wheels

750 W · 95 to 105 N·m

This is where full suspension and published torque figures arrive. The Mars 3.0 folds and runs full suspension on 20 x 4 tires at 95 N·m; the ALPHA goes up to 26 x 4 at 105 N·m; the Horizon is the 24 inch folding full-suspension one; and the Titan takes a second pack for up to 80 miles.

  • Motor 500 TO 750W
  • Peak 1,000 TO 1,400W
  • Torque 95 TO 105 N·M
  • Tires 20 TO 26 IN FAT

Carbon and long range

750 W mid-drive or 1,000 W hub

Three bikes at the top of the range. The Hero is a carbon fiber frame and the only Heybike we carry offered with a mid-drive — 750 W mid-drive or a 1,000 W rear hub. The Hybrid is the long-range commuter and the Venus is the light one. All three keep the 750 W nominal rating that holds them inside a US e-bike class.

  • Frame CARBON ON THE HERO
  • Motor 750W MID-DRIVE OR 1,000W HUB
  • Peak 1,400W
  • Class CLASS 2 AND 3

In this tier: Heybike Hero, Hybrid, Venus

Four numbers, and one Heybike does not publish

Heybike's specification sheets are shorter than most brands we carry. Here is what the numbers they do publish mean, and what to ask us for when they are missing.

750 W nominal

The ceiling

Almost every Heybike here is 750 W nominal with a 1,400 W peak. Nominal is the figure a class is measured on, so the peak does not push the bike out of Class 2. It is also why the whole range feels similar off the line.

Mid-drive vs. hub

Drivetrain

A hub motor drives the wheel; a mid-drive turns the chain and multiplies its torque through the gearing, which is why it climbs better. The Hero is the only Heybike we carry offered with one — 750 W mid-drive or 1,000 W rear hub, your choice.

Single or dual pack

Range

Two bikes here take a second battery: the Titan to 80 miles and the Saturn to 100. It is the cheapest real range upgrade in the range, and it is a decision made at purchase rather than later.

Tire width

What it costs you

20 x 4 to 26 x 4 inches across the range. Wider tires float on sand and snow and soak up bad pavement; they also add rolling resistance and take range off the same battery. A 20 inch folding fat tire and a 26 inch ALPHA are different bikes for different roads.

Heybike Electric Bikes questions, answered

Are Heybike e-bikes street legal?
In most states, yes, as Class 2 or Class 3 electric bicycles. They have pedals, pedal assist and a 750 W nominal motor, which is the federal ceiling for a low-speed electric bicycle. Class 3 assists to 28 mph and several states require a helmet on it at any age and keep it off multi-use paths — check your state's rule before you commit.
Which Heybike has the longest range?
The Saturn with the dual battery, at up to 100 miles, followed by the Titan at up to 80. Both are sold in single or dual-pack form and it is a choice made at purchase. Range figures assume pedal assist and a moderate rider weight; throttle-only riding will be well short of them.
Which one folds?
The Mars family, the Ranger family and the Horizon. The Mars 3.0 and the Horizon fold and run full suspension, which is unusual — most folding e-bikes give up the rear shock. The Ranger S 2.0 folds and is step-through.
What is the difference between the Mars 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0?
The 3.0 is the current bike: 750 W with a 1,400 W peak, 95 N·m, full suspension on 20 x 4 tires, and it folds. The 2.5 is the previous generation at a 1,000 W peak, and the 2.0 is the same generation offered with a 750 W or 1,000 W motor and listed on clearance. If you want suspension at both ends, take the 3.0.
Heybike does not list a battery size on some of these. Can you get it?
Often, yes. Heybike publishes less than most brands we carry — several listings give a motor and a tire size and stop. Ask us with the model name and we will get the pack capacity, weight or geometry from Heybike and put the answer on the product page so the next person does not have to ask.

Suspension and battery, not watts.

The motor barely changes across the Heybike range. What you buy with the extra money is travel, tire size and pack capacity.
