The Freego X3 is not street legal. It has pedals, turn signals and a brake light, and none of that changes the legal position: an off-road mode of 56 mph is far outside Class 1, 2 and 3, which top out at 28 mph. City mode caps the bike at 28 mph but the machine as a whole is not classifiable. Ride it on private land, closed courses and OHV trails where local rules allow.
A Fardriver controller and 2,880 watt-hours

The Freego X3 is the big one in the X series: a 4,500 W nominal, 8,000 W peak rear hub motor fed by a Fardriver controller rated 100 A nominal and 300 A peak, on a 72V 40Ah pack worth 2,880 watt-hours. Two modes - City for road speeds, Off-road for all 56 mph.
Freego's own two documents describe City mode slightly differently: their website says it caps at 28 mph, while their dealer sheet says the throttle caps at 20 mph and pedal assist carries to 28. We have asked them which is right. Either way it is a capped mode, and Off-road opens the bike to 56.
It has pedals and a pedal-assist sensor as well as a full-twist throttle, which is why Freego publishes a City-mode range of up to 110 miles at 20 mph with assist, against up to 40 miles at 45 mph off-road. The chassis is high-strength steel pipe on an inverted hydraulic fork and a rear KKE shock, with four-piston hydraulic calipers on 203 mm rotors at both ends. Wheels are 19 inch front and rear on 2.75 x 19 motorcycle-grade tires. It carries an LED headlight, a rear brake light and turn signals, and takes a 330 lb load.
The standard X3 carries the 72V 40Ah pack. The X3 Pro is the same bike with a 50Ah, 3,600 Wh battery.
Off-road use only. Having pedals and turn signals does not make it street legal - 56 mph is outside every US e-bike class.

100 A nominal, 300 A peak
The controller is usually the first thing an e-moto owner replaces, and Fardriver is usually what they replace it with. Freego fits one at the factory: 100 A nominal, 300 A peak, feeding a 4,500 W nominal / 8,000 W peak rear hub motor. That is what lets the bike hold 56 mph rather than surge and fold back.
2,880 Wh, and a pedal-assist sensor
72V 40Ah is 2,880 watt-hours - the same pack size as the Coswheel R19 and the 79BIKE Falcon GT. Because the X3 has pedals and a pedal-assist sensor as well as a throttle, Freego can quote up to 110 miles in City mode at 20 mph with you contributing. Off-road at 45 mph it is up to 40. The 84V 6A charger takes five to eight hours.

Headlight, brake light and turn signals
An LED headlight, a rear brake light and turn signals come fitted. That does not make the bike street legal - 56 mph puts it outside every class - but it does mean you can be seen on a fire road at dusk, and it means the hardware is there if your state ever offers a path to register a machine like this.
