Start with what you are allowed to ride

Three classes. Pedals first, then voltage.

This page holds two different kinds of machine. Bikes with pedals sit inside a US e-bike class and can be ridden on the street in most states. Bikes without them are off-road vehicles, and among those, voltage is the honest way to sort power.

Class 1 · pedals fitted

Ride it on the street

$899 to $2,199 · 20 to 28 mph

A crank, a chainring and pedal assist are what put a machine inside a US e-bike class. Class 2 gives you a throttle to 20 mph; Class 3 assists to 28 mph. Two to read twice: the Freego Flash F3 Pro Max runs two 750 W motors, which puts it over the federal ceiling whatever the listing calls it, and Freego publishes no class rating at all for the 28 mph City Flow A1.

First full-size e-moto

$999 to $2,199 · 48V to 60V

Off-road machines: too much motor for any e-bike class, whether or not a crank is fitted. This is where most riders should start — enough torque to loft the front wheel deliberately, not enough to do it by accident. Packs run about 1 to 1.8 kWh, which is 20 to 50 real miles depending on how hard you ride. The MotoTec 1000w 48v Superbike is the outlier here — a 15 mph fairing bike, not a trail machine.

  • Peak power 1,000 TO 7,000W

$2,499 to $5,999 · 50 to 68 mph

Motorcycle output on a bicycle-sized frame. Y-VOLT quotes 948 N·m and MotoTec quotes 1,200 N·m on the Venom — figures that only make sense measured at the wheel, after gearing. Seats reach 35.4 inches and rider limits reach 330 lb. Three of these keep pedals — the Coswheel R19 and the Freego X3 pair — which buys range on assist and nothing legally. Track, trail and private land only. Full face, boots and gloves, every ride.

The parts follow the bike

Every bike on this page carries a platform code, and most have a parts collection behind it. Pick the code once and the whole store filters to parts confirmed for that exact frame — sprockets, pads, levers, batteries, plastics.

Four numbers that decide this

Brands lead with the biggest number they can print. Here is what each one actually tells you on a page that mixes road-legal bikes with off-road machines.

Class 1 · 2 · 3

Legal class

A US low-speed electric bicycle needs pedals and a motor at or under 750 W nominal. Class 2 adds a throttle capped at 20 mph, Class 3 assists to 28 mph. Nothing without pedals qualifies, whatever its top speed or its marketing says.

48V · 60V · 72V

Voltage

Voltage is the class system on the off-road side. 48 to 52V is entry, 60V is mid, 72V and up is full-size. A higher pack raises the speed ceiling, the weight and the price at the same time. This page spans all three.

Ah x V = Wh

Range

Watt hours, not amp hours, is the range number: a 72V 40Ah pack holds 2,880 Wh. Ridden hard off-road, budget 20 to 25 Wh per mile. A commuter at 20 mph will do far better than that, which is why range claims across these two groups are not comparable.

Rider window

Fit

Most brands publish a rider height window rather than a seat height. Across this page they run 3'11" to 6'7", and seats reach 35.4 inches. Check yours before you buy, because a tall seat does not shrink.

Electric Bikes for Adults & Teens questions, answered

This page has e-bikes and dirt bikes on it. What is the difference?
Pedals. A bike with a crank, a chainring and pedal assist can be a Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike and ridden on the street in most states. A bike on foot pegs is an off-road vehicle: no class, no registration, no bike lane. Everything else — power, speed, suspension — follows from that one decision, which is why we split the catalog on it at /collections/electric-dirt-bikes-with-pedals and /collections/electric-dirt-bikes-with-foot-pegs.
Which of these are street legal?
Only the ones with pedals, and only within their class. Class 2 tops out at 20 mph on throttle; Class 3 assists to 28 mph. The off-road machines are not street legal out of the box in any US state, and a speed setting that caps one at 20 mph does not change that — the missing pedals do. Two on this page sit in a gray area we flag on their own pages: the Freego Flash F3 Pro Max runs two 750 W motors, and Freego publishes no class rating for the City Flow A1.
Will one of these fit a teenager?
Check the rider window, not the age. Vendor windows on this page run from 3'11" on the Heybike Villain and Yozma IN 10 up to 6'7" on the MotoTec 72v 8000w Pro. The Natkie N1 is worth knowing about: a full-size 72V machine that Natkie rates from 4'11", which is unusual at that power level. Rider weight limits run 220 to 330 lb, and those include gear.
What voltage should I start on?
48V or 60V if this is your first off-road electric. That band covers roughly 2.6 to 7 kW of peak power and 35 to 55 mph, which is fast enough to be genuinely interesting on a trail and slow enough to survive a mistake. 72V machines make 10 to 35 kW and weigh 130 to 240 lb; they are not a first bike.
How do these ship?
Boxed and insured, free within the lower 48 on complete bikes, typically leaving in 1 to 4 business days. Assembly is bars, front wheel and a first charge on most models, and the Macfox range arrives about 95% built.
What is the return policy?
14 days from delivery to start a return. Complete bikes carry a 25% restocking fee on a change of mind, plus return freight. If we shipped the wrong thing or our fitment data was wrong, you pay nothing.
