How fast do electric dirt bikes actually go?

Current electric dirt bikes run from 40 mph at the entry level to 60 mph at the top of our floor, with the popular Surron and Talaria class sitting between 47 and 53 mph. Your real number moves with four things: gearing, rider weight, terrain and state of charge. The spec sheet speed is the ceiling, not the average.

The short version

Current electric dirt bikes run from 40 mph at the entry level to 60 mph at the top of our floor, with the popular Surron and Talaria class sitting between 47 and 53 mph. Your real number moves with four things: gearing, rider weight, terrain and state of charge. The spec sheet speed is the ceiling, not the average.

Every spec sheet prints a top speed and every owner measures a different one. Here is the honest table across the bikes we sell and support, and then the four reasons your GPS will disagree with it.

Top speeds, model by model

Bike Peak power Top speed Class
Yozma IN 10 2,600 W 40 mph Entry
Heybike Villain 4,160 W 45 mph Mid
Surron Light Bee X 6 kW About 47 mph Mid
Yozma IN 10 Pro 5,500 W 50 mph Mid
Talaria Sting R (MX4) 8 kW About 53 mph Mid
Coswheel R6000 7,000 W 55 mph Full-size
79BIKE Falcon Pro 10 kW 56 mph Full-size
79BIKE Lynx 12 kW 56 mph Full-size
79BIKE Falcon GT 16 kW 59 mph Full-size
Coswheel R19 9,000 W 60 mph Full-size

Numbers for bikes we sell come from their product pages; Surron and Talaria figures are the accepted stock numbers for those platforms.

Why your real top speed is different

  • Gearing. The single biggest lever. A bigger rear sprocket trades top speed for hill torque, tooth by tooth. Run your combo through the gearing calculator before buying anything.
  • Rider weight. Spec speeds assume a light test rider on flat ground. Every added pound shaves the top end and, more noticeably, the pull getting there.
  • Terrain. Loose dirt eats several mph against hard-pack. Grades eat more.
  • State of charge. Voltage sags as the pack empties, and speed sags with it. A bike that hits its number at 100% will not at 30%. The range guide covers the math.
The speed disclaimer that is not boilerplate

Everything above 40 mph is motorcycle speed on a vehicle lighter than a motorcycle. These are off-road machines: trails, tracks and private land, in a full-face helmet and gloves. Know your local laws before you ride anywhere near a street.

Questions, answered

How fast is a Surron?
A stock Surron Light Bee X runs about 47 mph. Gearing changes move that number in both directions, which is what the gearing calculator is for.
What is the fastest electric dirt bike?
On our floor, the Coswheel R19 at 60 mph and the 79BIKE Falcon GT at 59 mph, both 72V full-size machines.
Can you make an electric dirt bike faster?
Yes: gearing is the cheap lever, controllers are the big one. Upgrade brakes and suspension first; speed you cannot stop is not an upgrade.
