Off-road only

The Freego X0 is not street legal. It is throttle only with no pedals, carries no US e-bike class rating, and Off-road mode does 40 mph. City mode caps it at 20 mph but that does not make it road legal. Ride it on private land, closed courses and OHV trails where local rules allow, and gear up - a small bike at 40 mph does not hurt any less than a big one.

Overview

1,380 watt-hours in a 99 lb mini

A small bike with a full-size pack, turn signals and 203 mm hydraulic brakes. Off-road and private property only.

The X0 is a mini e-moto that carries a full-size battery. 2,000 W nominal and 3,600 W peak from a rear brushless hub motor, on a 60V 23Ah pack worth 1,380 watt-hours built from 80 cells in the 21700 format - more energy than several full-size bikes at this money. City mode caps it at 20 mph; Off-road mode opens it to 40.

It is throttle only - Freego is explicit that there is no pedal-assist sensor. Brakes are two-piston hydraulics on 203 mm rotors at both ends, suspension is hydraulic front and rear, and the wheels stagger a 14-inch spoked front against a 10-inch rear on puncture-resistant tubed tires. An LED headlight, a rear brake light and turn signals come fitted. Curb weight is 99 lb, of which the removable battery is 13 lb, and the 67.2V 3A charger refills it in three to six hours.

Suggested rider height is 4'7" to 5'9", which is the point of the bike. Off-road use only.

A Full-Size Pack In A Mini

1,380 watt-hours, on 80 cells

Most mini e-motos carry 500 to 1,000 watt-hours. The X0 carries 1,380 - a 60V 23Ah pack built from 80 cells in the 21700 format, and it weighs 13 lb of the bike's 99. That is why Freego can quote up to 50 miles in City mode where a smaller bike would quote 20.

Throttle Only, And Freego Says So

20 mph in City, 40 in Off-road

Freego is unusually direct about this: electric throttle only, no pedal-assist sensor. There are no pedals to fit and no assist to switch on. What you get instead is a two-mode cap - 20 mph in City, 40 mph in Off-road - from a 2,000 W nominal, 3,600 W peak rear hub motor on a 45 A / 180 A controller.

Freego's three small machines, and they are not interchangeable. The K1 is a genuine children's minibike at 15.5 mph. The X0 and the Nova 5 Mini both weigh 99 lb and do 37 to 40 mph - they fit smaller riders but they are not toys.

What riders say

Q&A

Questions riders actually ask

No. It has no pedals, no US e-bike class rating and an Off-road mode that does 40 mph. The turn signals do not change that. Ride it on private property, OHV parks and trails that allow off-road vehicles.
It fits smaller riders - Freego's window is 4'7" to 5'9" - but Off-road mode does 40 mph and the bike weighs 99 lb, so it is not a toy. City mode caps it at 20 mph and that is where a newer rider should start. Full gear regardless. For a genuinely child-sized machine, look at the Freego K1.
Freego publishes up to 50 miles in City mode at 15 mph and about 20 miles in Off-road mode at 25 mph, tested with a 165 lb rider on flat ground at 77 F with no wind. Plan around the Off-road figure.
Both weigh 99 lb. The X0 is a rear hub motor on a 60V 23Ah pack with turn signals and a 40 mph off-road mode, fitting riders from 4'7". The Nova 5 Mini is a mid-drive with a two-stage gear reduction on a smaller 48V 21Ah pack, geared for 37 mph, with a 10 mph first speed level. The X0 carries more energy and more lighting; the Mini gears better and has a lower first cap.
It ships free from Freego's warehouse in Chino, California. Freego dispatches in-stock bikes within 1 to 3 business days and quotes 3 to 8 business days in transit to the lower 48. Hawaii, Puerto Rico and other islands are not served - if that is you, talk to us before ordering and we can ship to a continental address you nominate. Inspect the crate before you sign for it, and photograph any damage on the spot.
Freego publishes a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty to the original retail purchaser, split by part. The frame, stem and handlebar are covered for 24 months. The motor, controller, battery pack and wheels are covered for 12 months - the motor specifically for 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. Throttle, lights, pedal-assist sensor, display, switches and charger are covered for 3 months. Wear parts - grips, tires, tubes, fenders, fork, kickstand, brake pads, cables, rotors and gears - are covered for 30 days. The battery is covered against capacity loss beyond 20 percent under normal use. Freego supplies genuine parts free within cover and guarantees parts availability for two years; labor is not included. Start any claim with us at support@motorhabit.com.
It arrives part-assembled in a crate. Expect to fit the front wheel, handlebars, mirrors or fenders where fitted, charge the pack fully, and go over every fastener with a torque wrench before the first ride. Budget an hour and a set of hex keys.
