Do I need a license?
No. Every bike here ships Class 2 — 750W peak with the throttle capped at 20 mph, and pedals — which federal law treats as a bicycle. No license, registration or insurance in most states. Local rules vary, particularly on shared paths, so check yours.
Can I ride these off-road?
On gravel, fire roads and rough ground, yes — that is what the fat tires are for, and the X2 Pro adds full suspension. They are not motocross bikes. No jumps, no whoops. If that is what you want, look at the electric dirt bikes instead.
Why are these not filed with the dirt bikes?
Because they are not dirt bikes, and treating them as such misleads people in a way that costs money. Dirt bikes have no pedals, no class rating and are not street legal; these are Class 2 bicycles with pedals. Macfox's own site calls the X1S a moped-inspired commuter and the X2 Pro an electric mountain bike.
Are they the same as the Heybike commuters?
Same law, different bike. The Heybikes are city, folding and utility frames built for a daily commute. These are moped-framed, throttle-first machines on much wider tires. Pick by how you want to ride, not by the legal class — that part is identical.
How does this ship?
Free US shipping over $99. Everything leaves in 1 to 4 business days. Parts go by ground; complete bikes go boxed and insured by freight.
What is the return policy on a bike?
14 days to start a return. Complete bikes carry a 25% restocking fee on a change of mind and return freight at the carrier's actual charge, because that is what the manufacturer charges us. If we shipped the wrong thing or our fitment data was wrong, you pay nothing.

About Moped-Style E-Bikes

What a moped-style e-bike is. A Class 2 electric bicycle — pedals, a thumb throttle and a hard 20 mph ceiling — built on a moped frame with a banana seat and 4 to 5 inch tires. Federal law treats it as a bicycle, so there is no license, registration or insurance in most states, and every model we stock is UL 2849 certified.

Why it is not a dirt bike. An electric dirt bike has no pedals, no class rating and 2,600W to 16,000W on tap, and it is not street legal. These are none of those things. We list them separately because filing them together does real harm: one is road-legal and the other can be impounded.

Why it is not a commuter. A city or folding e-bike is built around a diamond frame, a rack and an upright riding position. These are built around a throttle and a wide tire, for riders who want something that copes with gravel and rough pavement without becoming an off-road machine.
