Electric Bikes with Pegs (No Pedals) questions, answered

Why does it matter that these have no pedals?
Because pedals are what a US e-bike class is built on. A low-speed electric bicycle needs a crank, pedal assist and a motor at or under 750 W nominal. Take the pedals away and the machine is an off-road vehicle no matter what it weighs or how slowly it goes — which is why a 10 mph MotoTec mini bike and a 68 mph Y-VOLT sit in the same legal category.
Where can I ride one?
Private property with the owner's permission, designated OHV areas, and closed courses. Not on public roads, not in bike lanes, not on multi-use paths. Rules vary by state and by county, and enforcement on OHV land varies more than the law does — check before you load the truck.
Can I register one for the street?
In most states, no. These have no VIN, no DOT-approved lighting package and no e-bike class to fall back on. A handful of states have a process for titling a homebuilt or off-road motorcycle; it is slow, it is state-specific, and none of these ships prepared for it.
Which of these are suitable for a kid?
The ones with a low seat, a low rider limit and a limiter — which is most of the first stage. We keep that cut as its own page at /collections/electric-dirt-bikes-for-kids, sorted by seat height and rider weight rather than by the vendor's age rating, because those ratings are not comparable between brands.
How fast is too fast to start on?
As a rule, stay under 40 mph until you can ride standing, brake in a straight line on loose ground and pick the bike up on your own. Most bikes here have a limiter, so buy the bike you will grow into and set it slow rather than buying slow and replacing it. The one thing you cannot dial down is weight: a 238 lb Venom is a handful at any speed setting.
How do they ship, and what is the return policy?
Boxed and insured, free within the lower 48, typically leaving in 1 to 4 business days; assembly is bars, front wheel and a first charge. Returns are 14 days from delivery, with a 25% restocking fee plus return freight on a change of mind. If we got the order or the fitment wrong, you pay nothing.

About Electric Bikes with Pegs (No Pedals)

Throttle-only electric bikes on moto foot pegs. No crank, no pedal assist, and therefore no e-bike class — these are off-road machines and cannot be registered as bicycles. If you need something road legal, start with the pedal bikes instead.

No pedals means no e-bike class.

Every bike here is off-road only and cannot be registered as a bicycle. If you need something road legal, start with the pedal bikes instead.
