- The motor case, the pack floor, and the cable runs sit lower than most riders think.
- Protection is the cheapest upgrade on the bike and the only one that pays for itself in one avoided hit.
- Test fit everything before a single bolt gets thread locker. Test fitting saves the second teardown.
- Check clearance through full suspension travel, not just on the stand.
- Recheck the fasteners after the first ride. Vibration finds anything you left casual.
Riders spend on power first because power is the fun part. Then a rock finds the underside of the motor case, and the bill for that afternoon buys a lot of aluminum. Protection is boring right up until the moment it is the only thing that mattered.
What is exposed down there
A damaged pack is not just a repair cost, it is a safety issue. A crushed or punctured cell is a pack that should never be charged again. That alone is the argument for a plate.

Choosing a plate
Thicker is not automatically better. A heavy plate adds unsprung weight low on the bike and can transmit a hard hit into the mount points instead of absorbing it. What matters more is coverage, mounting quality, and whether it drains.
- Coverage. Front lip far enough forward to deflect, not just catch.
- Drainage. Holes so mud and water leave instead of packing in and holding moisture against the case.
- Mounting. Bolts to existing frame points. Anything that needs drilling is a different decision entirely.
- Edges. Deburred and folded. A sharp edge in a crash is its own problem.
- Access. Can you get the pack out without pulling the plate off. If not, you will resent it weekly.
The install
- Metric hex set and a [00] mm socket
- Torque wrench in the [00] to [00] Nm range
- Medium strength thread locker
- A stand, and a light so you can see what you are doing
On the stand, key out. You will be under the bike with both hands busy.
Get the mud off the frame points. Hardware seats badly on packed dirt and you will not spot a cross thread.
Every bolt started by hand, nothing tightened, no thread locker. Confirm all points line up before committing. If one hole fights you, the plate is not seated square.
Back out one bolt at a time, add locker, run it in. Snug all of them, then torque in a star pattern so the plate pulls up evenly.

Pull the pack the way you normally would. If the plate blocks it, better to find out now than in a parking lot at dusk.
After the first rides
Recheck every fastener after ride one, then again after ride three. A plate takes direct impacts and passes the vibration straight into its own hardware, which is exactly the situation thread locker is for and exactly the situation that still loosens things.
- Inspect the plate and the mount points, not just the plate. A hard strike can deform a mounting tab.
- Check the pack bay for any sign of contact or deformation. If there is any doubt about the pack, stop using it.
- A bent plate has done its job. Replace it rather than straightening it, since the metal is worked and will fold in the same place.
