- Chain and sprockets were the most worn parts by a wide margin. Expected, and cheap to stay ahead of.
- Fasteners were the biggest safety finding. Several were loose, none had been checked since delivery.
- Wheel bearings and linkage bearings were fine at 500 miles, but the grease was contaminated in one.
- Brake pads had life left. Fluid was the thing that needed attention, not the pads.
- One chafed wire in the harness would have become an electrical fault within a few more rides.
Manufacturer service schedules for these bikes are thin, and most owners ride until something stops working. So we took a bike with 500 real miles on it, mostly trail, some of it ugly, and pulled it apart on camera to see what the miles actually did.
The bike we tore down
Ordinary use, in other words. No racing, no jumps beyond what a trail throws at you, no crashes worth mentioning. This is what a normal first season looks like on a bike nobody has been fussing over.

Nothing on that list is a design problem. It is a maintenance list, and every item on it is cheaper to do early than to do after it takes something else with it.
What surprised us
Loose fasteners
Several fasteners were loose, including ones that matter. Vibration plus heat cycling plus a bike nobody has gone over equals a torque check that should have happened at 50 miles and never did. This was the single most important finding in the teardown and it costs nothing to prevent.
A chafing wire
One section of the harness had been rubbing against a frame edge, through the outer sheath and into the insulation beneath. Another few rides and that becomes an intermittent electrical fault that is miserable to diagnose in the field. Two zip ties would have prevented it.
Grease contamination
One linkage bearing had water and grit worked into the grease. It still turned smoothly, which is exactly why nobody would have caught it without pulling it apart. Left alone it becomes play, then a bearing replacement.
The parts that wear are obvious and get replaced. The parts that kill bikes are the ones that look fine from the outside: fasteners, grease, and wire routing. All three are free to check.
