GUTS Racing seat guide: covers, foam, density, and doing the install

Buy a cover if your foam is fine and you slide under throttle: from $69.99, stapled on in 30 minutes. Buy foam if the seat has packed out flat, and pick density by rider weight, not preference. Buy a complete seat if you want a bolt-on with zero work. Everything is cut to order in California, so plan for 10 to 20 business days.

GUTS Racing seat guide: covers, foam, density, and doing the install

The short version

Buy a cover if your foam is fine and you slide under throttle: from $69.99, stapled on in 30 minutes. Buy foam if the seat has packed out flat, and pick density by rider weight, not preference. Buy a complete seat if you want a bolt-on with zero work. Everything is cut to order in California, so plan for 10 to 20 business days.

GUTS Racing has built motocross race seats for decades and now cuts the same materials for e-moto frames, one pattern per frame rather than one stretched to fit several. We stock 17 GUTS listings covering 14 platforms. This is how to spec yours the first time.

Cover, foam, or complete seat?

Buy this When Cost
Cover only Foam still springs back, but you slide on the stock vinyl $69.99 to $99.99
Foam only Seat has packed out flat after a season of landings $99.99
Cover + foam Both problems, and you own a staple gun About $170 to $200
Complete seat You want a bolt-on with stock hardware and zero labor $129.99 to $159.99

Covers, foam and pans sell separately on purpose: you replace what wore out, not the whole assembly.

How do you pick foam density?

By rider weight and landing habits, not by what sounds comfortable in a chair:

  • Soft: lighter riders. Heavier riders bottom soft foam to the pan on the first flat landing.
  • Standard: the middle of the weight range, trail riding.
  • Firm: heavier riders, and anyone whose riding involves the word send.

Tall foam is a separate decision: it adds seat height for riders over about six feet without touching suspension, sag or geometry. Standover rises by the foam height, so shorter riders stay standard.

Which cover style?

  • Ribbed: a physical stop against sliding back under throttle. The default answer on instant-torque bikes.
  • Gripper: full-surface traction for riders who move around the bike.
  • Smooth: free movement, the motocross traditionalist pick.
  • RF1: the race-panel design, in cover or complete form.

The 30-minute cover install

  1. Pull the seat, remove the stock staples with a flat screwdriver and pliers.
  2. Center the GUTS cover, front first. Patterns are cut per frame, so the shape tells you where it goes.
  3. Staple with 8 to 10 mm stainless staples, center-out, pulling tension evenly. Front and rear centers first, then alternate sides.
  4. No staple gun? Order the complete seat and bolt it on with stock hardware.

Care afterward: mild soap, water, soft brush. No silicone protectants, silicone kills the grip texture you paid for, and keep pressure washers off the seams.

One pattern per frame. Segway X260 and X160 riders order the crossover-listed parts, and the product page carries both codes.

Nothing sits in a box. Covers run 10 to 14 business days, complete seats, foam and kits 15 to 20, because each one is cut and sewn to your configuration in California. Order before the season, not before the weekend.

Questions, answered

Are GUTS Racing seats worth it?
For riders sliding on stock vinyl or sitting on packed-out foam, yes: race-team materials, cut per frame, made in the USA, starting at $69.99 for a cover.
Will a tall GUTS seat change my bike's handling?
No. Tall foam raises where you sit, not the suspension. Sag, travel and geometry stay stock; only standover height rises.
Can I put a GUTS cover over my stock foam?
Yes, it is the cheapest upgrade in the range. You need a staple gun, 8 to 10 mm stainless staples and about 30 minutes.
