Take the pedals away and the machine is an off-road vehicle no matter what it weighs or how slowly it goes — which is why a 10 mph MotoTec mini bike and a 68 mph Y-VOLT sit in the same legal category.

As a rule, stay under 40 mph until you can ride standing, brake in a straight line on loose ground and pick the bike up on your own. Most bikes here have a limiter, so buy the bike you will grow into and set it slow rather than buying slow and replacing it.
